Welcome to the Royal Zoological Society of NSW

The Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales (RZS of NSW) is concerned with the study and conservation of Australia's native fauna, and the education of its members and the general public on these subjects. Its objectives are to promote and advance the science of Zoology, and to protect, preserve and conserve the indigenous animals of Australia and their associated habitats.

The RZS promotes its objectives by:

  • holding symposia and forums on specific conservation issues or groups of animals;

  • presentation of the Whitley Awards each year for books with zoological themes;

  • support to young research workers is provided by the Ethel Mary Read Research Grants; and,

  • publishing the refereed journal Australian Zoologist, and books on zoology.
