Wildlife Section Join RZS |
Wildlife SectionThe Wildlife Section of the RZS comprises a group of active and enthusiastic zoologists whose members are particularly concerned with the biology and conservation of mammals. ActivitiesMeetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month in the rooms of the Zoology Building, Science Road, University of Sydney at 8.00 pm. Meetings feature a seminar by a speaker on some aspect of mammal biology. Speakers include students, academics, consultants and representatives of government and non-government organisations, ensuring coverage of a broad range of topics. Recent seminars have addressed vocalisations in marine mammals, habitat use in rodents and small marsupials, evolution of monotremes, the origin of feral cats in Australia and the discovery of a new species of small marsupial in south-eastern Australia. International speakers also visit the Wildlife Section in most years. Field surveys are undertaken on occasions by the Section in the greater Sydney area and elsewhere in New South Wales. A monthly newsletter keeps members up-to-date with news in the mammalian world and with forthcoming meetings. Wildlife Section members can elect to have the section newsletter delivered by email.
